"being 'plucked' from a rooftop by a solider is not as erotic as it sounds"

I read this article comparing Katrina with Chernobyl a couple days ago. It's taken from the Washington Post awhile back, and it made me investigate Chernobyl more than I would have. All the same, I think Maitri's comments on the article are fitting, and the responses she received for them intriguing.

As serious as the debates become about anything Katrina-related, I find this angle of things the most interesting, rewarding. Jack Ware of Metroblogging New Orleans typifies this outlook in his article about the website just mentioned. Some people down there just chalk up this great good-natured curmudgeonly 'tude towards simply having a sense of humor, but everytime I witness these reactions, I get the feeling there's something more going on there than just knowing when or how or why to take a joke. However refreshing it is to read about, I'm still figuring out how such a characteristic could have been birthed by such a disaster. If you help me figure this out, I'd really like it. Then, I'd take total credit for your analysis and never speak to you again.
